Jesus Socorro

CEO & Managing Partner

Jesus is the CEO & Managing Partner of Socorro Partners, a professional services firm with global reach focused on value creation for its clients through efficient, high-quality solution delivery from the best and brightest people with diverse talents and backgrounds. Prior to Socorro Partners, Jesus was the National Managing Partner of BDO’s U.S. Management Consulting practice, as well as the leader of its global Management Consulting practice.

An auditor and CPA (NY and FL) by background, Jesus started his career at Ernst & Young in 1999 working primarily with SEC registrants. In 2014, he founded the Risk & Transaction Advisory practice at Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra (MBAF) where he led the practice until MBAF’s sale to BDO in 2021. With a broad, global, business and management background, Jesus has cross-functional leadership experience building and leading high-performing teams and managing key client relationships. He has worked with boards and senior management teams through many complex audit engagements and strategic projects, including complex transformational and operational improvement initiatives and capital markets transactions.

Jesus has also worked with PE-backed companies on governance matters, financial reporting, carve-outs, business process improvement and transaction structuring in contemplation of liquidity events, including through M&A and IPOs. Jesus has a mix of public and private company board experience and holds the Corporate Director Certificate from Harvard Business School. He has served on all public company standing committees, as well as ad hoc transaction committees to deal with capital markets transactions in the context of public offerings and M&A. He qualifies as an Audit Committee Financial Expert, as defined by the rules of the SEC. Jesus is the Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees at Palmer Trinity School, and he is on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) FL. He holds the NACD Directorship Certification and is an NACD Board Fellow. Jesus was previously the Chair of the Florida Board of Accountancy where he served and chaired various committees, including the Probable Cause Panel, during his governor-appointed board tenure.

A graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School, Jesus holds a Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, and an undergraduate degree in accounting from Florida International University.

Keith Urtel
Quality & Risk Management

With over 40 years of experience, Keith serves as the Partner-in-Charge, Quality & Risk Management function at Socorro Partners. A retired Ernst & Young partner and current Associate Teaching Professor at Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business, Keith is passionate about solving complex business issues through collaboration with his team and clients.

Having served as the lead partner on many worldwide audit and advisory engagements for large SEC registrants at Ernst & Young, Keith has extensive experience in the life science, technology, consumer products, and communications industries. In addition to his significant SEC experience, Keith has worked with PE-backed and other private companies, including family-owned businesses, through complex audit and consulting engagements. His expertise includes technical accounting and financial reporting, internal control over financial reporting, financing transactions, IPO preparation and corporate governance.

Keith, a New York and Florida-licensed CPA, has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and has completed executive education programs at Harvard Business School and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Kim Garcia

Partner, IT Risk Leader

As a Partner in the firm’s Advisory team, Kim has more than 24 years of experience in information technology auditing, security and risk management, SSAE 18/SOC reporting and information technology advisory services as well as managing the IT portion of publicly-traded and privately-held company audits in various industries for small to Fortune 500-size organizations. She served many South Florida companies in advisory/internal audit co-sourcing arrangements.  In addition, Kim has conducted several process integrity and controls improvement reviews during ERP implementations to identify operational and applications risks and improvements, including segregation of duties rules and analysis as well as governance development.

Kim has also worked with many public companies, including international and multi-location, on several IT audit-related projects to comply with the provisions of Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and led numerous general control reviews and application controls testing over IT and business processes.

Kim is affiliated with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Information Systems Audit and Control Association.

Kim holds a Masters degree in Information Systems Audit and an undergraduate degree in Accounting from Florida Atlantic University.

Joe Echevarria

Joe served as CEO of Deloitte LLP until his retirement in 2014, and prior to CEO he held various leadership roles at Deloitte throughout his 36-year tenure. He is currently the CEO of the University of Miami where he was previously a member of its Board of Trustees. Joe is on the board of directors of Pfizer, Unum Group, and The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation where he is the Chairman. He is also a former director of Xerox Holdings Corporation. Joe has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Miami.

Carolyn Groobey

Carolyn is a former McKinsey & Company partner with an active executive coaching practice and over 25 years of senior leadership experience, including at PayPal, Fannie Mae, and IBM. She serves on two corporate boards and is a strategic advisor to high-growth companies where she helps CEOs scale their businesses. Carolyn holds an MBA from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Delaware.

Ghislain Gouraige

Ghislain is a Barron’s and Forbes’ recognized wealth management expert with more than 30 years of partner and other executive-level experience at multiple financial firms, including UBS, Bank of America, and Lehman Brothers. Having served on various nonprofit and private company boards, Ghislain is currently the Chairman of the Board at Ayiti Community Trust. He previously served as the Chair of the Board of Trustees at Ransom Everglades School and Vice Chair of the Board of Directors at what is now Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Ghislain has a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania.
